L E Monahan Elementary School Reviews

I am speaking first hand as a teacher at this school. I taught here last year and had very serious concerns about the school administration. My colleagues work their tail off to make do, but with no support, their hands are tied behind their backs while kids get away with outrageous misbehaviors. I had to leave this place after working here several years, I gave them the benefit of the doubt my first year, but alas, no improvement in 2006-07. I wish the best for the teachers and your kids.

To the comments that were made regarding L.E. Monahan Elementary School. I totally disagree with all the negative comments that were made. Monahan has a great administrative staff. The test scores are remarkable and (that mean outstanding) The teachers are doing a wonderful job educating your children but they cannot do it by themselves the parents need to get involved with their child education. I am a parent and I am at the school on a daily basis volunteering. The administration staff makes sure your children are safe every day they enter that school building. I take my hat off to Monahan Staff Job Well Done. Ms. Latricia Archie

There is a major problem with the students playing in the traffic in the drop off lanes and no one seems to care. Teachers come on duty at 7:45 so I was told but the kids are there earlier then that unsupervised, knocking smaller children down and running wild. Parents need written guidelines for dropping off and picking up that will not change like the weather everyday. The new AP does not like to answer calls and will not discuss the problems there yet until it affects her. What is to become of our children with no competent leadership in the front office.

Although there are several teachers at Monahan that truly are interested in student learning, the overall school environment is very negative. I agree with the other parent about the dress code situation. I have never seen a school that puts so much more effort into enforcing dress code instead of academics. While the teachers are wearing blue jeans, the students are reprimanded for forgetting to wear a belt.

If the quality of education is measured by the quality of the teachers and administrators teaching involved Sheldon ISD is in for serious problems. The uncertified teachers are rapidly outnumbering the certified ones and the Principle and their Assistants are a joke in many cases. This is like a slap in the face to the District that has struggled for years to make something to be proud of and succeeded in almost every area. The school board needs to take a closer look at this concern and get things under control before we are back in the pits.I don't want my tax dollars spent on someone that is not a good role model for my sons and that is what I expect in a teacher or Principle. Board wake up and smell the simmering pot of dissent in the district before it boils over, the students will be th victims of the disaster.

After reviewing the new district lines, you can see that a majority of the board members interest lies only in seeing how much more money can be spent unnecessarily. Of course, the ones making the changes have, conveniently, retired. I honestly believe that Sheldon ISD has fallen below State standards. The test scores are deplorable. Three elementary schools: 1 with 300 students, 1 with 400 students, and 1 with 700 students. Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture? The office personnel (Royalwood) need to learn the definition of 'courteous'. Start spending our tax monies more wisely. Home schooling may not be such a bad idea after all! (P.S. some of the teachers do care but apparently the school board does not!)

I love Monahan Elementary, I have 4 children attending and would not send them to any other elementary school. The teachers are very caring and supportive. They call immediately if there is any problem or concern. They take as much extra time with the children as necessary to get them where they need to be.

As a parent of a Monahan student and teacher at Monahan, I feel that our school offers children a wonderful learning environment in which to explore and grow.

The principal leadership s traits are the utmost of profession. There no questions that goes unanswered. She knows every child under her guidance. She is a firm believer in ensuring that all of her 750 children are providing with the most consistent, loyal, firm and nurturing educational environment.

My overall view of Monahan is a great experience . The Principal at the school in the 2002-2003 yr is a wonderful leader. Because of her leadership it has brought great faculity to better ensure our children a better quality of education.
