Travis Elementary School Reviews

This school is great! My son was in pre-k last year and he loved it. Mrs. Wolford was fantastic. He can't wait to start kindergarten. The parent involvement is wonderful. The staff truly cares about the children and does a great job creating interest and motivation.

Travis has been an experience beyond my wildest imagination. Sadly, no one could have described to me how wonderful this school is until I experienced it myself. Travis encourages every kid to be creative and unique and happy. My child has had an absolutely magical fabulous experience at school. She loves art class and PE, coach Miller is everyone's hero and my child now begs to exercise. Mrs. Hodge is amazing, and Mrs. Nelson is one of the best teachers in the world, this is the kindergarten experience you dream about. the kindergarten class has outdoor centers every m: Children get to play outdoors and explore each activity, from painting to sawing to letter games to jump ropes. Also amazing is the Travis family camp! You will make friends you'll never forget. we love the teachers, the kids, the parents -- they're artsy, fun, warm, wonderful!

We moved here last year and we are so gateful to our new community for helping us to feel so welcomed. Travis is a great scool with great teachers and parents. I don't know why people would post really negative things. Everyone at the school has been really helpful and nice. There is so much diversity and if you get involved you can be a part of something really special. Like everything you have to just give it a try and seek to improve on things you don't like and support things you do like. So far our family and our 2 children have enjoyed every bit of our experience at Travis. We are transfers to Travis and we hope to stay there!

My child attended Travis from K-5th grade, including the temporary campus while the new campus was being rebuilt. I have nothing to say but positive about the school, staff and campus.

I researched many schools in the area, studied all of the test scores, read the newsletters and Travis was definitely the choice. The newly rebuilt school is fabulous...a parent's dream come true. Prior to enrolling my child I had many questions. I corresponded with the Vanguard Coordinator, Ms. Cole and the Administrative staff. All including Ms Walker, the principal, were very helpful, calming, reassuring and very professional. Ms Walker takes a very personal and special interest in her students, parents, teachers, community, staff and it shows...I wish she were my principal when I went to school. There is such a warm home-welcoming safe environment. My child loves to go to school there. The teachers/staff make time for us and communicate well with us be it in personal conferences or via email. We are really involved with the school and all of their activities...We are Travis proud! Dr. Jackie Doval, D.C.

My child attended Travis for 2 years. I was not impressed with the principal, particularly how she did not support the teachers. I know HISD has some great schools, and Travis used to be one of them. The saddest thing is that HISD is completely rebuilding this school. It will have a fancy new building in just a few months, but like a tree with internal rot, it's destined to collapse.

I have children in 5th and 2nd here and love the school. The teachers are fantastic, there's a great mix of kids and parental involvement is high and welcomed by teachers and the administration. We're about to get a brand new building, so are in temporary quarters for the 2005-6 school year. Even so, the children are thriving. The academic quality is high, but we all recognize there is more to shaping a well-rounded children than the three R's. Children have dance, art, and music both as classes during the week and after school, if the parent desires. This is a school where creativity flourishes.

Excellent Vanguard Program. Teachers are organized and thorough. Both of our children came from private school into this Vanguard program and we have been plesantly surprised. Very high level of parental involvement. If more funds were available, additional extracurricular activities such as foreign language, music, would be desirable.

It's a pollyanna world were parents accept what HISD does to kids so that they can have childcare for free. Dont be fooled it's not all that.

The level of parent involvement is extensive. This is an inner city school that receives high marks from this parent.

Travis has an excellent academic program balanced with great arts, physical education, and music. It is a gifted and talented magnet school that draws students from all over the city, which really adds to all the classes, mainly due to the great parent involvement. If you are a parent who likes to be involved, this is the school for you! It's a great school! And when the new campus is built this year, it will be even more incredible.

Great school both my children attend. Ms Walker is a great principal and most of the teachers are the kind who work with parents to help their child become a success. My Hats off to this place.
