Barbara Jordan High School Reviews

i just graduated from jordan high. i wounldn't recommend anybody to go to this school. i graduated in the top 30% of my class because of one teacher. the school really needs alot of changes the principle has no idea what shes doing the teachers have just givin up on the stuents. majority of the classes aren't runned by the teacher the students run the classes because the teachers don't know how to teach bad children, the children don't respect anyone there so if you are a parent don't send your child to that school

I have read the reviews of BJ and can honestly say that I can do nothing but agree that this school has dramatically changed within a short time. Most teachers are not properly organized to provide a curriculum to the students that will really teaches them instead of just preparing for TAKS. As a sophomore here at BJ I experienced first hand of how difficult it is for me to learn the subjects in which the last 2 to 3 weeks at the end of every six weeks we go over nothing but TAKS subjects.

I am now a senior at Barbara Jordan and I still feel like it's the best school in H.I.S.D. Changes need to be made for as the extra cirruclar activities and maybe now even the security. The level of parent involvement is poor but that's no one fault but the parent's. If the student's really want things to change that should get there parents involved. Talented 07' Senior

'i'm not a parent' I think no parent should let there kids come to b.j. the school is so unorganized. to me b.j is just another school. The new principal is ok. B.J. needs to get they stuff together ChaNai

I'am a senior and been a B.J really isn't all what you think. There is no extra activities. There is not alot of club to join. The new principal i really don't care for. I think they could gone a better route to prepare for TAKS instead of the last minute.Every friday we were in TAKS pullot and was failing our class beacuse we missed so much work.Alot of the senior are takingthe classes they fail because of the pullot. They don't have everything together. I think the principal and the school worry more about getting money than the amount of kids really learnig.I thing BJ will get a little better if they remove the new principal they were put with. Before the late Mr.Jones died i think BJ was a great schol. They may not had football team or etc. But we had thing we could enjoy but they have taking most of that away

I am a 10th grader at B.J., and yes sometimes the teachers do have there favorites but be truthful, who dosn't. B.J. to me is the best school in H.I.S.D. The only disadvantage is that they have no curricular and really if the students and parents have a problem with that they need to stop complaining and make some changes.

I am not a parent, but I am a freshman at the school and I am thinking of transfering. There are no extra-curricular activities at the school and the clubs are very limited. And even worse, the majority of the clubs that are at the school can only be occupied by 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Basically my whole first year there will be a total waste! I really and thinking about asking my parents to let me go elsewhere.

My son went to Barbara Jordan and I found out that the school is so unorganized and stupid. When my son went to college he was not prepared and it took him a longer while to adapt than the other freshmens. No one should have to go to a school where there is no extracurricular activities, no free time at lunch, no yearbooks, no auditorium, and no good teachers. It's a big mess.

I am not a parent, I am now a current student at Barbara Jordan high school and I would like to express my true insight about Barbara Jordan. I do not like the school because there are no extracurricular activities and the teachers are inexperienced. The administrators are very bias, the students that they are close with the staff get special advantages and get to roam the hallway all day, and I still don't know the principal! I would not recommend this school to anyone.

I had my daughter go to this school, based on the reputation from when I was young, but after she was going there I realized the mistake I had made. The school has changed, and the standard has been dramatically lowered. The students were unconserned (over all, not every student) and the teachers reflected that in their teaching. The principal had little interaction with the students, and electives were very limited. Students had no option of graduating from the distinguished plan because foreign language only goes as far as Spanish 2. They make it seem as if the money that they get from grants and the government is more important than the students education. In my opinion, a parent should really explore all of their options before settling on this school, where out of 1000+ students only 50+ students are on A-honor roll and B-honor roll combined.

My daughter loves her school. She's happier there than any other school. She thinks they need to work harder on getting things together and sometimes she says they're a li'l ghetto but she says its the best school and the staff is very professional and exemplary rings in the students and school.
