The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that employment in Houston's mining and lumber industry super sector fell by 151,600, or 2.4 percent, in the year to the end of October, compared with a 3.5 percent nationwide loss. Arlington had the lowest rate of job losses, with a 1.2 percent drop in employment, followed by Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. The national job loss rate in Texas, the largest metropolitan area by population, was 2 to 4 percent in October, compared with 3 to 5 percent for national losses.
